Featured Organizations

November/December 2020's Cause

Hi Kenola’s Community. This cycle’s featured organization is The Campaign Against Hunger NYC. The Campaign Against Hunger is “one of the largest and most robust anti-hunger advocates in NYC.”  We chose this organization because during the Holiday season there is always a need for this work but 2020 has proven to us that these organizations need our support more than ever as many more families and individuals are facing food insecurity. Through matching donations, our dollars can go further.  Let us continue to support The Campaign Against Hunger and other organizations doing similar work. We are indeed our brother’s keepers.

September/October 2020's Cause

Hey there!  Welcome to Kenola's Bookbag once again. As you know by now one of our aims is to donate a portion of the proceeds each cycle to a cause that directly impacts our communities. As we wind down the summer and head into Fall we know that it's the time of year where students are usually getting their school supplies and clothes together and teachers are preparing to meet and educate their new students. However, this year is a little different. Every time we turn on the news we hear the ongoing debate about whether or not to open schools for in person learning. Teachers are concerned. Parents are worried. Students are scared. Everyone is confused and not sure of what the right decision should be. At the end of the day we all want what is best for the students' and staff's safety and for the students to get the best education possible under the circumstances.

With that being said our inaugural cycle’s organization will be Donors Choose. Donors Choose was started by a high school teacher who realized that teachers spend a lot of money obtaining the necessary supplies that their classrooms needed to come alive.  He also recognized the desire for people to support teachers with their efforts. With that, he created Donors Choose, a website where teachers can post a project that they need to be funded and people can donate to the project of their choice. A simple, yet genius idea. As educators 😁, we know firsthand the stressors of this year’s opening and know that teachers will go above and beyond to ensure that whether remote or in person classrooms will be ready for the students.

So….a portion of each box that is purchased this cycle will go to benefit a public school classroom project focused on literacy.  If you choose to give an additional donation to Donors choose, just create an account, choose a project and give.  The teacher will be grateful. Thank you for your support Kenola's Kin!
