On August 14, 2021, thousands have been displaced and are in need of urgent aid. Due to the severity of the situation, critical supplies such as temporary housing and medical supplies are needed immediately. They are seeking to raise funds and contribute to a goal of $150,000 so that together, we may dispense these urgently-needed supplies to those affected by the earthquake.
United Way - Read NYC
https://unitedwaynyc.org/readnyc/
To achieve the long-term goal of self-sufficiency, United Way of New York City focuses on a two-generation approach—looking at families as a whole, addressing their immediate and long-term needs. They work to provide children with an equal opportunity to a quality education, while at the same time strengthening their parents’ and caregivers’ financial stability. They root this two-generation model in education, because they know that success in school is inextricably linked to the future of communities. It is when children are empowered to succeed academically—progressing from reading at grade-level, graduating high school, and moving on to college or career—and households have moved out of crisis into financial stability that they see proven success and growth.

Over the past twenty years, however, their organization has expanded in many ways. They now offer hundreds of nutrition education classes, workshops, and cooking demonstrations each year for their clients. In addition, they offer a suite of social services, including SNAP registration, health insurance enrollment, tax filing preparation, and much more.
Donors Choose
Donors Choose was started by a high school teacher who realized that teachers spend a lot of money obtaining the necessary supplies that their classrooms needed to come alive. He also recognized the desire for people to support teachers with their efforts. With that, he created Donors Choose, a website where teachers can post a project that they need to be funded and people can donate to the project of their choice.
